Allegra Talks: Film Lab — Create a Short Film in One Day

Updated: Feb 16

This February, Allegra Talks is bringing filmmaking to life with a hands-on creative experience for teen artists.

On Saturday, February 21 from 3–5 PM, Allegra will host a Student Film Lab, where participants will collaborate to create a short film from concept to camera — all in one afternoon. The finished project will be celebrated at a film viewing party on February 28, giving students the exciting opportunity to see their work on screen. This special workshop will be led by Visiting Artist Gabriele Victoire, and Allegra acting teacher Ryan Kilpatrick.

Ryan Kilpatrick is an accomplished writer and performer whose thesis screenplay The Oasis, created while studying at School of Visual Arts, earned a Dusty Award for Best Screenplay. Her experience in storytelling, performance, and film makes her an inspiring guide for students exploring acting for the camera.

Gabriele Victoire is a French writer-director known for emotionally driven storytelling and character-focused cinema. Together, Gabriele and Ryan will guide students through the collaborative filmmaking process — acting, filming scenes, and shaping the story as a group.

Starting in the Spring Semester: Ryan will also be launching Allegra’s new Acting for Film Workshop, a 10-week film study program. Dates and registration to be announced.

What Students Will Experience

Participants in the Film Lab will:

  • Act in scenes created during the workshop

  • Learn basic filmmaking techniques

  • Collaborate creatively with peers

  • Use their phones to shoot footage (optional)

  • Contribute music to the film if they play an instrument

Students of all experience levels are encouraged to participate. This workshop is designed to be welcoming, creative, and exploratory — perfect for actors, musicians, storytellers, and curious beginners alike.
